About Pilliga Pottery
Pilliga Pottery is a family owned business
We are located on the beautiful farm 'Barkala' in the bush North of Coonabarabran, in Northwestern NSW, Australia.
Established by German masterpotter Richard Rickert and his wife Maria about twenty years ago, and now run by Maria and their eldest son Johannes, it has grown from a little mudbrick shed with a kick-wheel and a wood-fired kiln to a sprawling creative enterprise, including an on-site cafe, a team of potters and artists, its own clay-making plant, a huge workshop and gallery, an array of fantastical alternative building styles, farmstay accommodation and lovely native gardens teeming with birds.
We are a little off the beaten track, but if you're ever in the area its a wonderful place to visit – impossible to describe and impossible to forget. They say pottery is a dying art, but its still alive and kicking here!
All our pottery is handmade on site by our team of highly skilled potters and artists. Our designs are original and individually done, by freehand. This means each piece is unique. Visitors to our workshop are welcome to watch free demonstrations.
If you can't come and see us, you can do the next best thing and order a hand made piece from our online shop!
