This lovely cream earthenware vessel is designed for use as a traditional wine cooler. Earthenware wine coolers don’t need ice – just soak it in water and then refrigerate for an hour or two. The insulating properties of natural clay means it can hold the temperature it is given for a long time, so if it is made cold it stays cold. The inside of the vessel is unglazed to let the natural clay do its work.

This wine cooler is decorated with one of our most popular patterns, a Blue Wren sitting in Flannel Flowers. This active, delightful, tiny bird (his proper name is the Superb Fairy-Wren) is a great favourite in his native Australia, beloved of all who are lucky enough to have him flitting about in their gardens (like us). His bold, inquisitive disposition, colourful plumage and lovely trilling song make him a very welcome neighbour. Everyone loves this cheeky, bright little fellow. The beautiful creamy-toned flannel flowers surrounding him are an icon of our local Pilliga region and a widely loved native wildflower. The design is glazed in a brilliant Cobalt Blue on the fairy-wren, with natural tones of cream, brown and green.

Our distinctive look is achieved by only glazing the design of this piece, providing a dramatic contrast to the natural "sandstone" colour of our local clay. The inside of the wine cooler is unglazed, to strengthen its cooling properties. Our wine coolers are also usable as utensil holders.

We ship to most countries, please ask us for a quote. We take extra special care with padding and boxing to make sure the piece will be amply protected.

Please contact us if you would like to order a wine cooler with a different pattern or colours. We do a variety of designs on wine coolers, including Blue Wren and Gum Branch, Waratahs and Geckos, and enquiries are welcome. We may have something to suit on our shelves.

Bird Watching tours

Blue Wrens at Barkala , the leading theme in our Pottery

Barkala Farm and the adjoining Nature Reserve are home to over 120 bird species, many of which can be heard (and seen) early in the morning or as the sun cools. In mild weather, the birds will be active all day. Morning walkers will generally be accompanied by a mixture of common and more unusual species.
