Our Clay
We've been lucky enough to locate a wonderful local source of clay that takes our colourful glazes exceptionally well.
We mine it from a farm in the local area and refine it at our own workshop. Like many inland Australian soils it is very dry and hard so it needs a bit of help to bring out its potential – it has to be crushed, soaked in rainwater, screened, filter-pressed, mixed, stored, and then mixed and de-aired one last time – and then its ready to use on the wheel! It's a fine, beautiful material with a unique colour.

Barkala Farm and the adjoining Nature Reserve are home to over 120 bird species, many of which can be heard (and seen) early in the morning or as the sun cools. In mild weather, the birds will be active all day. Morning walkers will generally be accompanied by a mixture of common and more unusual species. |
