This kind of elegant little vase is an extremely popular item in our gallery shop – a good size for flowers but also beautiful just by itself! This one features everyone’s favourite, the Blue Wren, sitting amongst another perennial favourite, a gum branch with blossoms and nuts. This active, delightful, tiny bird (his proper name is the Superb Fairy-Wren) is a great favourite in his native Australia, beloved of all who are lucky enough to have him flitting about in their gardens (like us). His bold, inquisitive disposition, colourful plumage and lovely trilling song make him a very welcome neighbour. Everyone loves this cheeky, bright little fellow. The boldly coloured little male wren is on one side, and his quieter-toned mate, Jenny Wren, is on the other, so you can turn the vase around to suit your mood. Both are sitting on a gum branch, glazed in rich natural tones, and the two sides are kept separate by simple yet effective decorative borders in earthy, warm colours. The rim is finished off in a rich, deep red glaze.

Our distinctive look is achieved by only glazing the design and rim of this piece, providing a dramatic contrast to the natural "sandstone" colour of our local clay. The inside of the vase is fully glazed with a clear glaze, so it is usable.
